Top 7 Learnings from an Innovation Leadership Programme

✨Top 7 learnings from amazing group of corporate marketers, we

have just finished a 6 month Innovation Leadership programme together.

💪We worked on innovation behaviours, learnt new tools and put it all into practice whilst working on real projects in the wild.

Their learnings ...

1. We don’t need to pay customers to talk to us and we don’t need to always take them a solution.

If we really listen and are committed to acting our customers are more than happy to share their problems.

2. We need to be really totally obsessed about our customer problems rather than just selling.

If we can’t understand or articulate the customer pain point then we need to stop and go back to the beginning.

3. As a team we need to be more comfortable with saying when we don't know rather than guessing.

We need to make it OK to allow people to be vulnerable and feel they can say say when they don’t know the answer.

4. When we mess up, we should share our experiences with our colleagues rather than try and hide it.

Everyone can learn from our mistakes. But also this gives us momentum and energy to go again.

5. We shouldn’t fear setting metrics for success on our projects even when getting the right metric is tricky to find.

The metrics improve our decision making, helping us to know when to pivot, preserve or stop.

6. We need to actively build cognitive diversity into our project teams and stop recruiting people who think like the rest of us.

We need to introduce people who think differently and have different life experiences as this increase our creativity.

7.Keep flexing that empathy muscle.

For our customers but also for our team members.

🚀I've loved this programme and its been a real joy to work closely together over a sustained period of time and seeing this all come together to fuel next years marketing plan.
